Loosely based on the Goethe play, Gounod’s quintessential French grand opera, Faust, was initially rejected for production at the Paris Opera because it wasn’t "grand" enough. The opera, with its profusion of catchy tunes and show-stopping arias, eventually became the most performed work at that house and others around the world. We present it in an abridged version (the original is in 5 acts!) but opulent period sets and costumes and with full chorus, orchestra and a top notch cast. |
